Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers about using this independent MTD bridging tool for VAT and Income Tax submissions.
What is bridging software?
Bridging software connects your spreadsheet totals to HMRC APIs so you can submit digitally. It is a submission tool, not bookkeeping software.
Do I need accounting software?
No. You can continue using spreadsheets, but you remain responsible for keeping complete and accurate records.
Can I use Excel or Google Sheets?
Yes. You can prepare your totals in Excel or Google Sheets and submit those totals through this service.
What is a cumulative ITSA submission?
It is a year-to-date update. Each ITSA submission includes cumulative totals up to that point in the tax year.
Do I need to preview before final declaration?
Preview is recommended before final declaration. Submit only when your year-end data is complete and correct, and HMRC shows the tax year as open.
What happens after I submit?
The system sends your totals to HMRC and records the submission response for your confirmation history.
Does this work with HMRC APIs?
The platform is built to work with HMRC APIs and required authentication and fraud prevention header standards.
Is my data stored?
Account and submission data is stored securely to operate the service. HMRC access tokens are stored securely for authorised API calls.
Can I amend submissions?
For ITSA, corrections are made by submitting an updated cumulative year-to-date figure where HMRC allows it. For VAT, amendments depend on HMRC rules for the selected period.
